Change The Hockey Culture, Change The Game (2022)

Generally speaking, the culture of hockey is different than the culture of most other sports in its values, norms and behaviours. Rooted in the early Canadian pioneering spirit where being competitive was often seen as necessary to thrive and survive, tough as well as persistent, and able to defend one’s self was seen as essential. To this day, passion, toughness, competitiveness are considered fundamental requirements of the game. However, trash talking, taunting and attitudes like ‘win-at-all-cost’ and an ‘eye-for-an eye’ value system has often prevailed.
